Foods to avoid during pregnancy

Learn what not to eat while pregnant as some of them are potentially dangerous…..

Fishes

  • For most people consumption of mercury by eating fish such as shellfish, shark, tilefish, marlin, walleye, gar, bowfin, lake whitefish,Tuna steak, oysters  becomes a unhealthy concern as it harms the baby or baby’s nervous system.
  • Avoid eating raw fish at times of pregnancy as they contain worms, flukes and parasites.
  • Cooking can be the effective method as it kills all parasites.

Meat and eggs

  • Avoid raw and semi cooked meat and eggs risk for contamination is high through bacteria and viruses.
  • Avoid broken eggs.
  • Store egg made food products in a refrigerator.

Deli meat

  • Foods available at counters such as beef, chicken including hot dogs preparations should be heated again as they have risk of having listeria contamination.
  • Chances of food poisoning are more while pregnant.
  • Unpasteurized milk contain listeria bacteria which lead to miscarriage and life-threatning.
  • Unpasteurized cheeses should be avoided.

Caffein

  • Caffeine can even lead to miscarriage and defects.
  • Some kinds of herbal tea during pregnancy are harmful.

Alcohol

  • Alcohol should be strictly avoided during pregnancy as they lead to developemental disorders
  • as they cross the placental and thus effecting the baby.

Vegetables without washing are to be avoided as they contain toxoplasmosis contamination.
Plan a healthy and safe diet.
