Brushing teeth has become a simple thing picking up the tooth brush, rubbing it gently or roughly on the teeth and rinsing it with water. Cleaning teeth regularly helps to take fine care of ones gums, teeth and overall body maintenance.

Clean or brush your tongue regularly which removes most of the bacteria.

The main reason brushing teeth is an essential part of oral hygiene regiments and to prevent several forms of dental problems. Cavities, gingivitis and periodontal disease can all be prevented through the simple practice of tooth brushing.

Examine your teeth for:

•    Plaque: Thin soft, sticky, film that develops on your teeth due to bacteria and brushing. It causes gum diseases and other dental problems. Dental check ups regularly and brushing twice a day and flossing help to prevent plaque.

•    Tartar (calculus): forms like a plaque (colorless and sticky layer of bacteria) that forms on teeth. Brushing regularly and flossing helps to clean where brush cannot reach.

•    Surface stains: Coffee, sweets, tea, juices, iron supplement medications, tobacco use, soda and red wine make stains on your teeth so brush as early as possible after consumption. Brushing twice and dental cleaning is preferred.

•    Bad odor: generally caused when the food particles get struck in between the teeth the normal process of breakdown of food happens and releases bacteria. Bad odor is caused by bacteria.

•    Cavities: Holes in a tooth caused by decay. Food habits, fluoride, un cleanliness of teeth can cause cavities. They destroy your tooth and damage nerves and forms infection. Dentist consultation makes you to take necessary steps like filling the cavity and precautions considered.

•    Infections/ Abscess: Pus aggregation below the tissues and around the tooth due to bacterial infection. Biting and chewing becomes painful and in extreme stages results in tooth decay and crack in a tooth. Priority suggests draining away the abscess normally but in severe cases root canal surgery is required.

•    Flossing: Nylon filament used to remove remains of food particles struck in the teeth and plaque from teeth. Daily flossing yields best results.

Do’s:
•    Brush teeth carefully not more than 2-3 min twice in a day.
•    Flossing helps to prevent some problems.
•    Regular dentist visits to be required.
•    Oral hygiene is required.

Don’ts:

  • Smoking causes gum diseases and can cause oral cancer.
