Hair Loss - Causes and Care

Hair loss has become a big anxiety because it is an essential ingredient of ones identity. Majority of the people take treatment without knowing the cause of the hair loss. So trying the wrong medications for the wrong cause will never help to get rid of the problem, so some measures should be taken before you start taking the treatment.

Hair is composed of a special protein called Keratin. We lose about 50 – 100 hairs per day and any thing above 100 is a serious concern and our hair grows in 1cm per month and the life cycle is from 2 – 6 years. Hair consists of three parts called shaft, hair follicle and root and follicular end contains a structure which contains color pigment called Melanin which is responsible for color of the hair.
Thinning of the hair happens as a part of ageing.

Alopecia is a term coined for hair loss. And we have many other forms in it:

Alopecia areata: Autoimmune disease that damages healthy hair follicles resulting in round patches on the scalp.

Trichotillomania:  Pulling of the hair due to psychological problem which results in different lengths in hair.

Hair treatment: bleaching coloring, straightening make hair to break and fall off.

Androgenetic alopecia: Male pattern baldness caused due to androgens and genetics together. Female pattern baldness can also be seen in some cases characterized by thin hairs on scalp.

Medications & Diseases: Some type of drugs and anticoagulants causes hair loss and even some treatments like chemotherapy cause extreme hair loss. Infections, Diabetes and hormonal imbalance (androgens and estrogens out of balance) and thyroid disease can cause loss of hair.

Nutrition: if the hair does not get sufficient proteins and vitamins the hair starts falling.

Care to Hair:
•    Don’t use blowers to dry the hair instead use natural heat to dry up.

•    Use mild shampoos.

•    Smooth cloth while rubbing hair and mild rubbing of hair is required.

•    Chemical usage on hairs is to be banned.

•    Doctor recommendation, tests and blood samples (if required) is must.

Treatment:
•    Medicines help in treating the infection.

•    Some oils and shampoos are used to treat hair fall and results in healthy growing.

•    Some natural herbs even used in the treatment process.
